Printing my own 35mm B&W film in the darkroom on…

Along The Way
I take my 4×5 camera with me on hikes and walks. This led to my ongoing series Along the Way, a collection of images I take of people that I meet along the way. None of the images are pre-planned or organised. They are just regular people that I either approach and ask them to let me take their portrait or people that see my camera and would like to know more about it, and then I take their portrait. The sessions take about 10 minutes and the subjects are sent both web suitable and print suitable files, for their own use. I get a collection of portraits of real people in real environments, just as I find them.
All images were taken on a Chamonix 45F-2 with Nikkor W 180mm lens. The film was Ilford FP4. I do not own a 4×5 enlarger (yet), so all images are digitised.
The series so far can be viewed here.
I am a Sydney based photographer and was introduced to large format photography while completing a Diploma of Photography at Ultimo TAFE. I never looked back.
More of Matt’s work can be seen on his website, Instagram and Youtube.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Matt and working alongside him. Great photographer who has a gift with understanding his subjects. I think this comes across in his portraits.
