Cloudscapes

It has been nearly 100 years since Alfred Stieglitz photographed hundreds of clouds in Europe, devoid of any reference points such as horizons.  Soft and wistful in the northern light, they were considered as one of the earliest works to use photography in an abstract way, free from subject matter. He considered them as akin to music.

In contrast, in Australia the light is stronger. My cloudscape photographs aim to capture the dynamics of clouds in the southern light, showing their form, texture and power. I consider them as messengers about climate and the temporal nature of the heavens. Images ©.
