Large format dry plates made in Melbourne

Melbourne Dry Plates is a new venture by photographer Bianca Conwell, to supply handmade photographic Dry Plates to large format photographers in Australia and beyond.

Small batch Silver Gelatin emulsion is made in her darkroom in Melbourne, and glass plates cut to size and coated by hand. The recipe used and techniques employed are just as those practiced by photographers in the late 19th and early 20th Century.

The orthochromatic plates are ultra fine grained at an estimated ISO1 and mostly sensitive to UV light. Although processed like sheet film they can be handled under safelight and so can be developed by inspection.

Full instructions for handling are online, and they are available to purchase now at www.melbournedryplates.com
