Workshop: Katrin Koenning – Narrative and Place

Centre for Contemporary Photography: Workshop – Narrative and Place: toward new visual imaginaries with Katrin Koenning 18 & 19 August 2018.

‘Over the course of two consecutive days, Katrin will guide participants along photographic thinking and exploration of our physical and emotional connection to place and environment, and to that which surrounds us. Studying a variety of narrative histories as well as theoretical and practical methodologies and challenges to land and place-based image making, the course will draw on notions of photographic practice as a ‘being-in-the-world’. Katrin will provide in-depth insight into her own working processes and influences as well as intensive portfolio reviews of each participant’s individual work’.

Katrin Koenning is a German artist who regularly exhibits her works in Australian and international solo and group exhibitions. In 2017, her work Successions featured as a solo show at Paris Photo (East Wing Gallery). Koenning is the recipient of multiple awards including the Australian Photobook of the Year Award, the Conscientious Award and the Daylight Award. Her images are being published widely in places such as The New Yorker, ASX, The New York Times, The Guardian, Der Spiegel Magazine, SBS Australia and many others. In 2016, she launched her first book ‘Astres Noirs’ (Chose Commune) at Le Bal, Paris. She teaches annual masterclasses and workshop intensives with institutions such as Angkor Photofestival (Cambodia), Photo Kathmandu (Nepal), The Lighthouse (India), Photobook NZ (New Zealand), PCP (Australia), ACP (Australia), Photographic Museum of Humanity and others. Koenning currently lives in Melbourne, Australia, and is represented by East Wing Gallery (Dubai).
