Exhibition: Harlequinade – Ellie Young

Ellie Young has delved deeply into research to understand the personalities of harlequins through the 14th to 18th centuries; as well as the relationships between these harlequins – also known as court fools, jesters and bufoons – with their commissioners. At times these relationships were affectionate and oftentimes just an outlet for vicarious emotional expression.

A collection of dolls were sourced from various international locations, of which Ellie has re-dressed or left in original state, posed and photographed. Developed in a four-colour carbon transfer process, Young demonstrates her mastery of this photography technique creating an incredible body of work exhibited for audiences.’ Media release.
