I made this photograph at Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles CP) either one or two days after a full moon. I set up in the early hours of the morning to catch the catch the now setting moon as the sun’s rays began to appear. The proportions of this particular rock ideally suited the aspect ratio of my view camera, and I closed in on its time worn surface to imply something of the proportional value of each entity.

This photograph was taken during a 2024 gathering of large format photographers in Warburton. This tree fern was located on a hill and needed full rise on the front standard, and to avoid vignetting the image with a 270mm Nikon lens (the longest in my kit), a little back tilt. My view camera doesn’t have rear movements and playing with the enlarger easel isn’t on my radar, so some converging of the verticals was inevitable.

This photograph was taken on a trip to Cape York in the winter of 2024 at a place called Chili Beach. It is a lovely camp but the nearby beach is notorious for its south easterly onshore winds. Fortunately the rainforest just inland is well protected and I found some nice subjects including this Yellow Carabeen. The day had partial cloud, but the rainforest canopy also helped to further diffuse the lighting.
