Workshop: Introduction to Analogue Photography with Ilona Schneider
In a world where we can create images with our mobile phones and digital techniques giving us infinite possibilities, there is no reason to limit yourself to the generic image making that the current software developers have to offer. Analogue photography is not just nostalgia, but the tactile side of image making. Photography is a practice of seeing and there are many ways to look at the world. For example, through a viewing screen upside down and reversed or with a medium format camera from a belly button perspective. There are literally hundreds of ways to take, process, and print an image. In my 30 years in professional photography, where I use mainly digital techniques, I never gave up on analogue. It expands my way of thinking about photography and offers me a wider spectrum of the medium.
The introduction to analogue photography is on Saturday, 19th August 2023, from 10am – 5pm. This workshop is held in our wonderful Studio in Elizabeth Street Hobart. This is followed on Sunday, 20th August with a day in the darkroom where we will process our own film, make proof sheets or a print. We’ll discuss cropping, editing and printing and what makes a photograph work. These workshops can be taken separately. There are no prerequisites, just curiosity and a love for the medium.
